What is Ransomware?

Ransomware is a type of malware that encrypts victims data or decives, threating to keep them encrypted leak the data unless the victim pays a ransom to the attacker.

How does it encrypt data:

It encrypts all files except these which is important for the operating system. It encrypts it with a very complex encyption algorithm that cannot be cracked easily and requires a key to recover all your files back to normal.

History of Ransomware:

Ransomware used to be created by 1 person only but since 2020 cybercrime gangs are creating and distributing Ransomware as a Service (RaaS) so that attackers wont claim responsible for harm and that professionals handle the ransom and ransomware development

Types of Ransomware:

There is 2 general types of ransomware they both work similar the same but have 1 big difference:

Leakware / Doxware:
Is a type of ransomware that steals sensitive data and threatens to publish it unless the victim negotiate a price with the attacker and pays it. Nowdays it also encrypts the files so to make it worse.
These types of ransomware became more common since 2020.

Typical Ransomware:
The typical type of ransomware that encrypts files and recovers it when the victim pays a ransom.
